What is Medical Tourism?

Awareness Ribbons Customized - ImageChef.com A health tourist goes to another country to get the same treatment at a fraction of the cost. With Michael Moore’s controversial film on health-care “Sicko” people are realizing how they can save money, aggravation with insurance disasters and get “first class” treatment by American-trained doctors in hospitals that are on a par with the US at about 50% less cost.

  • Panama is fast becoming the Mecca for “health tourism”. Why? Because Panama is safe (the tap water is one of the best in the world);
  • Your treatment is tax deductible in the US (most travel expenses due to medical reasons are included)
  • Panamanian doctors are mostly American-trained , speak English, warm, knowledgeable and unhurried. It is a pleasure to be treated in a Panamanian hospital. From personal experience, I gave birth to my first born son in Panama and it was wonderful; my second born was born in Miami and I had a much less pleasant experience in a local hospital in comparison to the first class treatment I got in Panama.
  • No waiting for months to get plastic surgery, and you can still have extra money to spend that you would’ve spent in the US on surgery and still enjoy a vacation. See http://www.pana-health.com/
  • Americans living in Panama go to http://www.hospitalnacional.com/ with an international department to serve you.
  • Dental treatments are very inexpensive and done by American trained dentists http://www.smilepanama.com/

Panama has several advantages over other countries. To begin with it is close to the US- a 3 to 5 hour trip from all the major cities. John Hopkins Hospital is affiliated with Punta Pacifica Hospital and many American physicians are immigrating south to find better quality of life and practice without so many limitations and malpractice insurance costs do deal with.

Many dreams have been made in Panama…and in Panama you’ll never feel too far from home!
