The City of Ft Lauderdale Community Appearance Awards Program

The City of Ft Lauderdale has extended it’s deadline for the 2008 Community Appearance Awards Program.

I know you must be thinking the same thing I thought when I first saw this article courtesy of the city’s website. Ok, hold on! don’t go start breathing heavy, thinking the city is wasting tax payer’s money. The program per the website, is sponsored partially by way of private and corporate donations.

What got me interested in this subject was the fact that the city of Ft Lauderdale and it’s residents have been able to maintain this program since 1978. The program as I understand it “recognize homeowners, architects, landscapers and developers for their individual efforts to enhance the City’s visual image and economic vitality” [city website].

I personally think this is a good think not just for the City of Ft Laudedale, but for all of Broward county. I wish more cities would adopt this or similar programs so that their residents can be proud of where they live and work. Programs like these add a sense of responsiblity to each home owner that says, I care about my city and the improvements or developments that have taken place and I will protect and celebrate it’s achievements.
