I’m sure you have already received your property tax bill by now and if not, it will arrive shortly. You open it up, anticipating a decrease and you can’t believe your eyes…..it went up, not down. What happened to the rollbacks that were voted in during the special session in June?
The Florida Association of Realtors is on it and has sent a very clear message that this is unacceptable. Here are some answers why…..Each property appraiser is assessing differently. Some are lowering assessments and taxes and others are using sales from 2005 as comps!!!! Miami-Dade County is the only property appraiser in Florida who is appointed not elected which may be adding to our pain. Maybe it’s time we follow the 66 counties in Florida and elect our property appraiser. Maybe then he/she will work for the people that put them in office.
