Are You Moving Because of a School?

A common concern most families face when purchasing a home is the school district. As families and future parents search for homes, we know finding the best school to enroll them in is a high priority. Think you’re the only one in the U.S. looking for a home in the right school district? Think again. In fact:

Schools influence the value of a home:

The proximity of a property to a top-notch school is almost thought of as an amenity. According to a realtor.com survey performed during July of 2013, 90% considered the school boundaries important or relevant when buying a house.

Many are willing to make sacrifices:

According to the survey:

• More than 50% of people would pay between 1-20 percent more for the right school.

• 62% would sacrifice a pool for school proximity.

• 51% would sacrifice shopping for school boundaries.

• 35.5% would even sacrifice square footage for the right school.

How Can You Tell Which is the Right School?

Greatschools.org contains the grades for each school, and student/teacher ratio according to zip code or area of your preference. However, it is important to remember that the school’s grade is only based on past performance and standardized tests. Since future performance cannot be determined or predicted, the possibilities for choosing a school are endless, so keep your eyes open for the right school and the right house.
