Due to the class size reduction Amendment, Section 1 of Article IX of the State Constitution(November 2002), all schools in Florida as of the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year<\/strong><\/em> are required to reduce size of classroom. The maximum number of students in core-curriculum courses assigned to a teacher in each of the following three grade are: Prekindergarten through grade 3, 18 students<\/em><\/strong>;\u00a0 grades 4 through 8, 22<\/em><\/strong> students<\/em><\/strong>; and\u00a0 grades 9 through 12, 25 students<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

There has been\u00a0new schools\u00a0sprouting around town in the areas of Aventura, Sunny Isles, and North Miami Beach as well as eight more in Dade county. The two new schools in the area of Aventura, Golden Beach, Sunny Isles and North Miami Beach are:<\/p>\n

“Sunny Isles Beach Community” which\u00a0 is a new K-8 on Northeast 183 rd Street and Atlantic Boulevard\u00a0which will ultimately have about 1,600 students. The new Principal will be\u00a0 Annette Weissman that comes in with many years of experience as an educator and as a Principal from Ojus Elementary. The building is a beautiful site to see, it is four stories and it sits between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic Ocean.\u00a0 The school will recieve students from\u00a0Golden Beach, Sunny Isles and Eastern Shores.<\/p>\n

The next new school in the area is called “Aventura Waterways K-8 Center” at 21101 NE 26th Ave. It’s a striking five story building that won the the Education Design Showcase 2008 annual award in the June issue of School Planning & Management, a national publication that focuses on best practices in school facilities planning and design.<\/p>\n

Both schools will relieve overcrowding at\u00a0Virginia A. Boone Highland Oaks Elementary,\u00a0Ruth K. Broad Bay Harbor Island and Highland Oaks Middle School.<\/p>\n

As a parent that has been involved in the school system as a volunteer, fundraiser and President of the local area PTSA, this is the best next thing to the invention of “white bread”. Now why would anyone spend money sending their kids to private school when you have public schools with the same teacher\/student ratio and more accommodations that private schools?<\/p>\n
