Many people are acquainted with the French Villages in Miami, but not so many people know about the Italian Village. The quiet streets of the Italian Village are located just south of Bird Road, west of Riviera and east of Granada. The architecture being that of a Mediterranean style also has characteristics of elegant Italian farm homes. There are 17 magnificent homes in this five block village that are considered the originals of the development built between 1925-1926.<\/p>\n

I currently have listed 4203 Monserrate<\/a>, one of these original stately Italian Village homes. This beautiful property has been updated but maintains the original integrity of the home and neighborhood. Built in 1926, it was designed by architects, John and Coulton Skinner. These brothers moved to Miami from Ohio and set up an architectural firm in 1925. They were very well respected and built many of the big homes in Miami and Coral Gables. They also designed the French Normandy Village on LeJeune and the Florida Pioneer Village on Santa Maria, along with building a number of homes in the French Village. They later formed a partnership with Harold Steward and designed many important buildings in Miami, including the Miami Seaquarium, Mercy Hospital and the Miami Public library which is no longer standing.<\/p>\n

The owners of this magnificent residence that sits on over a 14,000 square lot (hard to find in the French Village) was respectfully added onto and remodeled. The original hardwood floors still grace the original part of the home, while new Walnut wood floors are found in a parquet style in the elegant kitchen and family room and another variation of the walnut floors in the media room.
