Been away too long. \u00a0Sorry for that. \u00a0Well, it\u00a0appears\u00a0that summer is knocking at our door, if this week’s rains are any indication. \u00a0It’s time to start thinking about sipping summer\u00a0whites, and even more interesting for\u00a0those of you who are hankering for ABC (anything but chardonnay).<\/p>\n

As the mercury and humidity start to rise, it’s a good time to explore refreshing, crisp whites to accompany our\u00a0South\u00a0Florida seafood cuisine. \u00a0 Our friends at the famous Spanish winery Vega Sicilia are spreading their wings. \u00a0They have\u00a0reached\u00a0out across Southern Europe and\u00a0purchased\u00a0a Hungarian\u00a0winery\u00a0called Oremus. \u00a0This is their delicious\u00a0and unique Dry Tokaji (those 2 words rhyme, by the way), called Mandolas.<\/p>\n

We had the chance to enjoy this wine with two wonderful meals this week: first with the\u00a0season’s\u00a0last stone crabs and then with a shrimp and creamy tomato pasta. \u00a0The wine is a natural companion to seafood. \u00a0It is fresh and floral on the nose, crisp and clean on the palate, with perfect acidity for a wide range of dishes. \u00a0But it is no lightweight. \u00a0Albeit it is not the buttery, malolactic-fermented apple strained chardonnay that seems to be America’s white wine Idol (chardonnay) it has great heft in the mouth and can stand up to rich sauces and\u00a0succulent\u00a0crab and lobster meat. \u00a0It will be great poolside or at an intimate candlelit dinner.
