It’s alive and well! Since 2002, when Art Basel made its presence known in Miami, I’ve not missed a single show. And it just keeps getting better! Every year is bigger and bigger, with more galleries exhibiting more art, by more contemporary artists, in more locations. I started the week at the Miami Beach Art Photo Expo at the lavishly decorated Surfcomber hotel where more than 200 contemporary works of photographic art were on display. A few days later, I spent six hours at “Art Basel” (the Miami Beach Convention Center). Where else can you see so many of the artists from the modern art movement? This year was no exception! There was an abundance of Warhol, Picasso, Basquiat and Tapies. And I’ve never seen so many of Joseph Cornell’s box assemblages in one place (I think his estate released a huge body of his work). Contemporary artists were also well represented at the convention center. I’m always awed and amazed (and sometimes disturbed) at the ways people find to express themselves and their art. I spent another whole day in the Wynwood District walking through (and enjoying) the many galleries at Scope Miami, Pulse Miami and the new Art Miami. Everyone, from the inexperienced to the artist or collector should attend. Art Basel renews my faith, every year, that art is not dead!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
