This program is sponsored directly through the Public Affairs Unit under the Coral Gables\u00a0Office of the Chief of Police.<\/p>\n<p>The Crime Watch\u00a0goal is\u00a0to provide residents, businesses, and visitors with tips\u00a0for prevention of crime.<\/p>\n<h2>Keeping You Safe<a href=\"http:\/\/drewkern.com\/files\/2011\/02\/police-hat.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-1287\" src=\"http:\/\/drewkern.com\/files\/2011\/02\/police-hat-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"police hat\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Proactive in their goal for increased safety, meetings with neighborhood and business associations are held frequently where crime watch signs are provided. In addition,\u00a0other programs are offered (most of them at NO COST) such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Park Smart Program: <\/strong>Free &#8220;Park Smart&#8221; signs to increase awareness of one of Miami&#8217;s major theft problems, car burglary.<\/li>\n<li><strong>National\u00a0Child Identification Program:<\/strong> (in\u00a0partnership with American Football Coaches Association) Free identification kits for children in case they are lost or injured.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Walk Safe Program:<\/strong> Working with Middle Schools, for safer walking routes to and from school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What you can do&#8230;<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you see it, TEXT it:<\/strong> Anonymously report information through text message, in the TO line of your text message window enter 274637 (crimes) and in the message window type tips 139, then the\u00a0information you would like to report. SEND<\/li>\n<li><strong>Home and Business Security Checks:<\/strong> On- site security\u00a0check to\u00a0evaluate way of reducing the chance of your home and business falling victim to a crime. (no cost)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Direct Connect for Business&#8217;s:<\/strong> Direct alarm wire to Police Department, simultaneously giving notice to the department and your alarm company.(only cost is for initial hook up)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data Dot Program:<\/strong> Data\u00a0 Dots free of charge to residents or business owner to place on valuable belongings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Spreading the Word, For Better Safety<\/h3>\n<p>The<a title=\"Coral Gables Citizens Crime Watch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.coralgables.com\/CGWeb\/cwhome.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> Coral Gables Citizens Crime Watch <\/a>participate in community events\u00a0such as the\u00a0Jr. Orange Bowl Parade and\u00a0Farmers Market on\u00a0Saturdays, where they provide handouts on crime prevention.
