October 16, 2010, is a day that will not live in infamy but will live in pink, feathered glory. Just take a stroll through Esplanade Park, and you will see the remains of what appears to have been a huge flamingo massacre. It wasn\u2019t murder but maybe a little mayhem from the Glam Doll Strut participants. With feathers surrounding their necks, heads, waists and even ankles they laughed, shouted and danced their way down Himmarshee on Friday evening proclaiming October Breast Cancer month and that having fun and raising money is the best way to Kiss Breast Cancer Goodbye. <\/span><\/p>\n Lynn Martinez of Channel 7\u2019s Deco Drive donned her very tall purple, suede stilettos with red soles to once again reign over the festivities. She was joined by Mrs. Florida, who lent her beauty and judging skills to the event. Lynn also lounged in her custom made high heeled throne and graciously posed for throngs of photographers from Comcast to the masses of amateur picture takers. Broward Mayor Ken Keechl presented a proclamation to Tammy Gail, the founder of Glam-A-Thon and a breast cancer survivor, that October 16, 2010 was Broward\u2019s Glam Doll Strut Appreciation Day.<\/p>\n One of the coolest parts of the event is how outrageous and inventive everyone \u2013 the men, women, children and pets are. How many pink poodles have you seen? How many men do you know that would wear feathered wings or walk in 5″ heels or wear pick wigs? This year there were 35 teams where the double entendre\u2019 was put to full use. A few examples are Boo Bees, Sole Sisters, Pinkaliscious, Ta ta toos.<\/p>\n After the parade the Glam Dolls sauntered to America\u2019s Backyard for the announcement of the winners and the after party of dancing. Then it was on the The Top of Pier 66 for the evening\u2019s end and more food, fun, singing and dancing.<\/p>\n The event raised over $83,000. Actually everyone that participated was a winner.
