That\u2019s enough to connote experience so I really don\u2019t have to keep track any more.\u00a0 In thinking of age I also wonder how do we stay fresh, excited, fire in the belly so that we can come to work with enthusiasm?\u00a0 Sometimes my fire has burned to a dying ember.\u00a0 It needs to be stoked and new wood placed on the hearth.\u00a0 That got me thinking about motivation.\u00a0 Yeah, yeah, yeah I\u2019ve heard the \u201ccarrot and the stick\u201d, \u201cthe pain or reward\u201d, but what is it that REALLY gets my juices flowing?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve finally decided, after much contemplation, that it\u2019s not the pain or the reward. \u00a0Rarely is it driven by fear of loss, although that can be a motivator, but usually a negative one.\u00a0 It\u2019s not another contest.\u00a0 It is not recognition of a job well done, although that helps, BUT\u2026 it is the thrill of DISCOVERY.\u00a0 When I am like a child with eyes wider than the sea and all absorbing, I am excited, enthused and motivated.\u00a0 I want more.\u00a0 I get up earlier.\u00a0 I have things to do.\u00a0 I want to be great.\u00a0 This thrill is sometimes driven by others depending on me and my acts.\u00a0 Sometimes it is found in learning.\u00a0 Sometimes it is found in creating something pretty or memorable, but what can we do to be more like that wondrous child, where you haven\u2019t heard, \u201cI\u2019ll think about it.\u201d \u00a0for the 10,000<sup>th<\/sup> time?<\/p>\n<p>The first thing that came to mind was to clear off your desk.\u00a0 This is a symbol of starting fresh and recommitting to your work.<\/p>\n<p>Second, remember who you are.\u00a0 You have made and will make an impact on other people\u2019s lives.\u00a0 This is an important business.\u00a0 What we do does make a difference.\u00a0 Read some of your past testimonials from those who you have helped.\u00a0 You are good!<\/p>\n<p>Third, tweak one of your systems.\u00a0 Just improve it by only 1%, and it will make a difference. \u00a0Make it a little shinier, prettier, faster. \u00a0Remember success begets success.<\/p>\n<p>Fourth, learn a new skill &#8211; stronger writing, create a video, use different talking points, better closing skills.\u00a0 Learn a language, a new computer app., new method for photography.\u00a0 Make a theme song for your business.\u00a0 Take a course.<\/p>\n<p>Fifth, think of yourself as fresh.\u00a0 Open those eyes and look as if you haven\u2019t been in the business forever. Walk faster.\u00a0 Stand taller. \u00a0Be alive and present.\u00a0 Learn, create and absorb. PRETEND to be new.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, do something that is daring or scary or really different from your normal course of activity.\u00a0 Put yourself in a situation where you have never been.\u00a0 Risk can be exhilarating.<\/p>\n<p>So for all of you both young and ageless, Happy Birthday!\u00a0 Let this be not just another year, but a year of rebirth and discovery, a year where our internal fires burn newer, brighter and thus younger.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of my big birthdays is coming up.\u00a0 I mean really BBBBIIIIIIGGGGG!
