{"id":3250,"date":"2007-09-22T22:32:28","date_gmt":"2007-09-23T02:32:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ewmrealestate.com\/blog\/2007\/09\/22\/ideas-for-a-healthy-and-happy-life-3\/"},"modified":"2015-04-10T20:27:59","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T20:27:59","slug":"ideas-for-a-healthy-and-happy-life-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ewmrealestate.com\/blog\/ideas-for-a-healthy-and-happy-life-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Ideas for a Healthy and Happy Life #3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Idea #3 &#8211; Enjoy Exercise<\/p>\n<p>I have two tricks for successful exercise habits.<\/p>\n<p>It is common knowledge that in order to obtain health benefits and physical results from exercise, a person needs to do two things -develop\/tone muscle mass (conventionally known as weight training) and burn fat (cardio or aerobic exercise).<\/p>\n<p>The first trick is to find something you like such as ballet, salsa, yoga, pilates, tennis, karate &#8211; maybe even lifting weights. Exercising is so much easier if it&#8217;s fun!<\/p>\n<p>The second trick is for cardio. I pretty much dislike anything cardio. The only way I have managed to get around this is by tricking myself into doing it. I know that sounds really silly, but this is what I do:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/images.google.com\/imgres?imgurl=http:\/\/www.kicksaholic.com\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/230\/files\/2006\/05\/custom%2520pink%2520prod.jpg&amp;imgrefurl=http:\/\/www.kicksaholic.com\/kicks-sneakers\/custom-kicks\/&amp;h=333&amp;w=450&amp;sz=43&amp;hl=en&amp;start=7&amp;sig2=GIyw-Cb8Unyx1lZP2MFidw&amp;um=1&amp;tbnid=cdU4vlv25q31MM:&amp;tbnh=94&amp;tbnw=127&amp;ei=Ks31Rtf_D5LQjgGrmNmzDA&amp;prev=\/images%3Fq%3Dpink%2Bsneakers%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGLR,GGLR:2006-28,GGLR:en\"><\/a>I leave my sneakers, t-shirt &amp; shorts out at night before going to bed, planning to get up and run in the morning. I don&#8217;t like running, but have found it to be the most time and cost effective approach! When I wake up I usually just want to curl back up and go to sleep &#8211; so, here&#8217;s the trick. I tell myself &#8220;You don&#8217;t have to run a mile and a half &#8211; just put your shoes on and get outside. If you still don&#8217;t feel like doing anything, it&#8217;s ok. If you start and feel like you want to come back, it&#8217;s ok.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img src=\"https:\/\/www.ewmrealestate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/230\/files\/www.ewm.com\/blog\/img\/0,1020,226027,00.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">                 <strong>Get it? Running shoe!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Usually I get out there and begin a light jog &#8211; before I know it, I&#8217;m at the end of the block, the end of the street. Sometimes I don&#8217;t feel like running, so I just walk. Sometimes I just walk ten steps and go back home for coffee. =) I know this doesn&#8217;t sound like the usual hard-core, no pain no gain approach, but it has really worked wonders for me.<\/p>\n<p>I recently read a book called &#8220;The Kaizen Way&#8221; and the whole point of the book is to inform people that sometimes the reason we don&#8217;t do something is actually physiological. The brain transmits a signal of &#8220;I&#8217;m overwhelmed&#8221; and we curl back up and go to bed.
