There has been a lot of anticipation for the soft opening of the Palmetto Bay branch of the Miami-Dade Library.\u00a0 On Monday, the anticipation turned to excitement as more than 300 people visited on the first day.<\/p>\n

Fittingly, among the early visitors was Palmetto Bay Mayor Eugene Flinn, whose daughter checked out a book or two.\u00a0 Elizabeth Symic of Cutler Bay said she drove by the building for months waiting for it to open. She was there Monday morning, scanning the adult section for suspense novels with her mother, Alaire Detert.<\/p>\n

The library boasts 21,000+ books and also has CDs and DVDs.\u00a0 If a visitor can’t find what they are looking for, the Miami-Dade County Library system’s four million pieces can be queried and the item is delivered to the branch.<\/p>\n

The Palmetto Bay Branch Library is located in the new Ludovici Park at 17641 Old Cutler Road.\u00a0 The rear part of the library is designed as a outdoor stage space and I’m sure will host various Village events soon.<\/p>\n

Branch manager Gabrielle Imbimbo is glad to see every part of the library being used. “They just jumped right in and all found their place,” Imbimbo said. “I’ve taken part in other openings, and this is by far the biggest turnout I’ve seen. It really shows that we needed a library.”<\/p>\n

Besides a computer section and a quiet adult reading area, there is also a children’s area.<\/p>\n

As a visitor Wednesday night, I can tell you this is a rather impressive soft opening.\u00a0 So, if you are in the neighborhood, grab that library card and check it out.<\/p>\n
