Last week we had our Chairman’s Club luncheon at Joe’s Stone Crab. EWM graciously hosts this lunch recognizing the top producers in our company<\/a>. It is always a fun couple of hours spent with my EWM colleagues.<\/p>\n

But while we were there, we starting talking about just how many stone crabs Joe’s must serve in a year! I looked it up and amazingly the restaurant serves a TON a day, no literally, and the take out and on-line divisions sell an additional ton a day!<\/p>\n

So some interesting information about stone crabs and Joe’s:<\/p>\n

The Florida Stone crab season runs from October 15 to May 15 each year. When harvested, they are allowed to take one claw at a time and the stone crab will grow another claw back. They can re-grow their claws 3 to 4 times in their life. I love this, because you get the joy without depleting the species!<\/p>\n

The Joe’s site shares that Joe’s wholesale division is the single largest purchaser of Stone Crabs in the State of Florida.<\/p>\n

I also learned that it is the second highest grossing restaurant in the United States! If you are not familiar with the ways of Joe’s, ask the maitre d’ if he will be there on your way out and tip him when you leave. This lets him know you are a local.<\/p>\n

Joe’s generously allows some philanthropic organizations to have events there. I chaired the Informed Families Joe’s dinner a few years ago. It is always a fun evening and who can resist a chance to go to Joe’s without the line. It is always the last night that Joe’s is open for stone crab season, so will be coming up in May.<\/p>\n
