2008 Notice of Proposed Property Taxes for Miami Dade<\/a> and Broward<\/a> counties went out in\u00a0 the mail a few weeks ago. Many people were surprised to find that their tax assessment value stayed the same or increased in a year where most properties market value actually decreased.\u00a0 For some basic valuation questions you may want to read this excellent article about the valuation process<\/a>.<\/p>\n

If after understanding the valuation process, you are interested in challenging your property tax assessment your window of opportunity is closing. \u00a0 Following is some information on the process…<\/p>\n

For Miami Dade County<\/strong><\/p>\n

The deadline to appeal all values and exemptions is Sept. 17, 2008<\/strong><\/p>\n

You must go in person to the Tax Assessors office to discuss the reasons why you think your assessment is unjust.\u00a0 You may want to bring some recent real estate sales information<\/a> with you to support your request for a valuation reduction.\u00a0 Based on the results of that conversation, you may then appeal to the Value Adjustment Board<\/a> for a formal hearing. All 2008 Valuation petitions must be received at the Value Adjustment Board’s Office by September 19, 2008<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In order to petition the Value Adjustment Board, you need to complete this form. <\/a><\/p>\n

You may also go in person to the Tax Appraisers Office located at:<\/p>\n
