The Homeowners Insurance Police in South Florida

If you’re a homeowner and insured with Citizens, this is for you! I’ve heard about many clients getting contacted by Citizens so they can re-inspect their homes to make sure the windstorm insurance premium credits are being properly assessed. Insurance credits are given on properties that are mitigated with opening protections like; hurricane impact windows, hurricane shutters and newer roofs, for example. Typically, 3rd party inspection companies perform mitigation inspections verifying this type of information for insurance companies. Citizens uses the reports to determine premium credits for the policies. Citizens has found many reports weren’t filled out correctly so they’re cracking down and doing follow-up re-inspections. Unfortunately the Citizens’ re-inspection usually yields different results, and premiums go up. This doesn’t only apply to new homeowners either – people who have owned their homes 20+ years are getting called, and their insurance rates are suddenly increased! If you haven’t been called yet, be prepared!
