All proceeds from this event go directly to Big City Mountaineers, a non-profit organization that works to transform the lives of under-served urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions. My father, Jim Kern, founded Big City Mountaineers in 1989. We took the first teen, a boy from Miami, on a hiking trip to Montana. Since then, thousands of boys and girls have had the opportunity to go on BCM trips, learning more about themselves in the process. Just this year, several groups of kids from Miami were able to experience the back country as a result of our past fundraising. For more information on the Big City Mountaineers, their national program and mission, visit their website here, or their facebook page.
