“Most of 2011 saw building permits increase in both Broward and Miami-Dade, though the recovery has been spotty. In Miami-Dade, the long view looks even uglier. Single-family permits were up 51 percent in Miami-Dade in February, the most recent month with local data. That amounted to an average of 107 permits filed per month. In February 2005, the average monthly permit count was 747, so the latest numbers mark a decline of 86 percent.
Both counties are showing permit activity that’s fairly close to levels seen in 2010, a time when tax-credits helped spur a brief recovery in construction.”
