Since the ground-breaking for Flagler Grove Park I’ve given you a little extra information about Coral Pine Park, Veterans Wayside Park and Suniland Park. Today’s subject is Evelyn Greer Park, located at 8200 SW 124 Street. It’s a beautiful park that sits on ten acres where a quite unattractive trailer park was once home to mostly elderly residents.
When the park was completed in January 2001 it was named Pinecrest Park. It was renamed Evelyn Greer Park in November 2004 in recognition of the contributions and accomplishments of the first mayor of Village of Pinecrest.
This is a very active park with athletic fields for softball and soccer, batting cages, a tot lot, and a recreation center and community gazebo which has an Internet WI-FI SPOT. In 2005, Parenting Magazine highlighted this park as “one of South Florida’s Best Playgrounds”. The playground is covered, has a climbing wall, firefighter pole, slides and other play areas. There are separate play areas for little children and older ones, as well as swings, open grassy areas and a wide sidewalk which Parenting Magazine described as being perfect for inline skating.
When I visited the park yesterday a number of children were using the playground with a parent either right beside them or very nearby where they could sit and watch the children. None of the parents objected to the possibility that their child’s picture could wind up on this blog. One father was especially eager to be accommodating. He was pushing his daughter in a swing; and the higher she went the bigger her pretty smile became. He had asked for my business card and noted that it says that I give part of each commission to charity. He asked which one I support. I told him that it varies, depending on the particular client. He told me that Chloe is a cancer survivor, noted that so much more is needed for research for children’s cancer and asked if I would consider a donation for children’s cancer research the next time I made a donation if it wasn’t already earmarked for another charity. I assured him I would. He gave me her card for her own web page. She can be found at Carepages.com. Her ID is Chloegorman0909. I know I’m not a great photographer; but I also am absolutely positive I snapped several pictures of her in the swing. When I arrived home to download the pictures into my computer I had no pictures of either Chloe or the swing — everything before and after, but not Chloe and the swing. Therefore, I’m posting a picture from her web site and encouraging anyone who may be so inclined so make a donation for childrens cancer research.
You just never know whom you will meet at the Park!
Tomorrow I’ll tell you about a really unusual park – Red Road Linear Park.
