Hurry, hurry this is one show you do not want to miss…
American Chronicles the Art of Norman Rockwell is a must see for all the family and currently right in our back yard at the Museum of Art-Fort Lauderdale.
I had the pleasure of attending a couple of weeks ago with my six year old and his friend. The kids did pretty good for “young-uns” in a packed museum…
The children enjoyed using the “phones” that the museum provides to tell the story of each picture. The childrens explanations were designated by the number 4 and adults by the number 3…And at the end they got to draw and make their own piece of art and hand it in to the curator!
I asked my son which picture he liked the best out of all of them and he liked the one above “Problem we all live with”…As a child I could see he could relate to her story-a child going to school for the first time and dealing with bullies.
I I liked that picture the best as well. As a Mother, I admired that brave little girl-Ruby Bridges holding her head high off to her first day at elementary school, though I can’t possibly fathom the reality back then in the 1960’s…
I also enjoyed talking a trip through time glancing at all the covers of the magazines Mr. Rockwell created and chuckled at a headline that had something to do with men (Fathers) babysitting their own kids…(That was a novel idea back then!)
Norman Rockwell is an institution of American History, graphically and colorfully told in an clean family manner, with an underlying story to share.
But that is the beauty of Art, it inspires, tells a story and gets your brain cells flowing….
Only 4 days left….Hurry Hurry…
