City of Aventura Moves Forward On Plans For New Public Library
The City’s public library, located at 2930 Aventura Blvd, had its roof severely damaged in 2005 by Hurricane Wilma and had to be closed down. In recent months, the building was demolished to make way for a new library.
The new library will have the following features:
- 26,000 square feet
- ability to hold approximately 30,000 books & materials
- designated children’s area
- designated area for young adults
- designated area for adults
- multipurpose room with 100-seat capacity
- 2 courtyards, one of which will feature a Zen garden
- an Arboretum
- offering how-to instructions how to create private gardens
- a retention pond featuring native aquatic plants
The building will incorporate eco-friendly design and will have Silver LEED Certification, according to the planners.
Construction is scheduled to start in late 2010, and doors are scheduled to be open to the public in 2012. The estimated cost for the new library is $15 million.
