Dragon Fruit martini’s anyone? Well, this recipe may not be included in the new cookbook, Local Flavor: Recipes Raised in the Florida Redland, but it offers 74 colorful pages of recipes shared by the Dade County Farm Bureau Woman’s Committee.
In keeping with the trendy farm to table philosophy, these recipes are from produce grown right in Miami-Dade County’s backyard, and include exotics like black sapote, canistel (egg fruit) and native sea grape as well as tomatoes, beans and squash. The recipes include appetizers, entrees, side dishes, desserts and beverages from Redland farmers, growers and residents who embrace the sustainable approach to agriculture and dining.
Strawberry pioneer family (not to mention sticky bun-meister) Burr’s Berry Farm has given up a pie recipe and Florida City’s Robert is Here has provided a shake recipe.
Proceeds from the sale of the cookbook benefit the Redland Raised Promotional Campaign, supporting brand awareness of local produce as well as the local economy, which accounts for $2.7 billion annually to Miami-Dade County’s economic impact.
Local Flavor: Recipes Raised in the Florida Redland is available for purchase from local farms, grower associations and produce stands in southern Miami-Dade County. Or order it online here: http://parkstore.miamidade.gov.
