A reopening celebration for the William H. Kerdyk Sr. Biltmore Tennis Center is planned for Friday, March 18, 2016 at 10 AM at 1150 Anastasia Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.
With 10 lighted courts and a recreation center, the Tennis Center rests in the shadow of the Biltmore Hotel under a giant banyan tree. The public facility includes a tennis pro shop with tennis instruction professionals on site. The tennis center has been closed for renovations since August. The extensive face-lifts included the resurfacing and repainting of the tennis courts, new sports lighting, the beautification of the entrance walkway and signs, upgrades to the fencing and windscreens, as well as improvements to the parking lot, landscaping and irrigation.
The Tennis Center is named after the late William H. Kerdyk Sr. who served as a Coral Gables City Commissioner for 28 years. Among his many accomplishments, Mr. Kerdyk is credited with with saving the Biltmore Hotel from demolition after it closed as a Veteran’s Administration Hospital in 1968.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on weekends from 7 AM until 1 PM.
