In case you missed it….

Voters will no longer have the opportunity to vote on Jan 29,2008,to pass an amendment that would have lowered our property taxes. Weston Mayor Eric Hersh, declared the amendment was unconstitutional and also filed a law suit . I will admit, when I first read this story I was a bit disappointed. There had been a lot of work and effort to have this proposed plan on the ballot, especially by local Republican Marco Rubio, which rallied along with the support of many taxpayers, and many were glad to hear some sort of aid was on its way. The proposed tax exemption was not great but at least it was a step in the right direction and some people, like new home owners, would have benefited from it.

In retrospect, maybe the Mayor has a point. Read this article, then you decide. The truth is only time will tell. I liked the law because of the direct impact it would have had on a market that has so many on the fence and waiting for “something” to happen. I figured it would’ve stimulated buyers and hence stimulate the economy. But if we end up with a better plan that helps more people and saves us all more money, then it is definitely worth the wait.
