What a wonderful day for a parade, Saturday, December 4, 2010. The weather went above and beyond the call of duty and residents came out in droves to enjoy the 11th Annual Forest Ridge Holly Day Parade.
Rhonda Gracie and her committee once again exceeded everyone’s expectations with their accomplishments. Not only did they organize the parade but they also volunteered their services during the event. This is an amazing group of Forest Ridge residents who do this solely for the fun of it and to help other residents enjoy a day of fun..
If you haven’t volunteered for this event in the past I highly recommend that you get involved. Whether you choose to make a float for the parade or help cook the hot dogs, there is something for everyone to do.
The committee begins meeting around September of each year to select a theme for the parade. This year the theme was “Groovin to the 70’s”.
Building on this theme, The Forest Ridge Woman’s Club came out to strut their stuff to the tune of “Dancin’ Queen” and took 1st prize in the Float Competition. This group really knows how to have a great time.
After the parade everyone goes up to the Ridge to enjoy musical entertainment, children’s games, food and a raffle. It’s the perfect family time and the children just love it. Santa Claus even makes an appearance and you can have your photo taken with him. There’s face painting, a balloon guy, inflatable rides, and contests for the kids.
The entire event is sponsored by donors from the neighborhood who either make personal donations or donations from local businesses.
