Festival Miami 2014

The Frost Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Sleeper, presented a terrific program, Made in America, for the Opening Night of Festival Miami on Friday, October 10th. The program opened with Bernstein, Candide Overture, a piece that is fun to hear and fun to play. Saxophonist Dale Underwood’s performance of The Concerto for Alto Saxophone by Paul Creston was memorable for the gorgeous sound and virtuosity. The quality of the orchestra players was evident in the performance of Charles Ives’ The Unanswered Question. The program concluded with the Barber Violin Concerto with violinist, Michael Ludwig. What a magnificent performance of the Barber! Maestro Sleeper has nurtured a remarkable orchestra. We are fortunate to have the world class performances of Festival Miami and the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. Festival Miami runs through November 10th.
