Coconut Grove Playhouse – Cultural Rebirth for the Grove

Coconut Grove Playhouse

I am sure many theater lovers were encouraged by the article that appeared in today’s Herald announcing a possible reopening and rebirth of the Coconut Grove Playhouse.  The theater was built originally as a movie theater in 1926 and still retains its original picturesque façade.

The theater has been closed for about 3 years burdened under over $4 million of debt.  The Playhouse board has chosen Joseph Adler, the operator and producing artistic director of the award-winning GableStage, as its new operator.  This rebirth will possibly come with some changes: although the façade will be preserved the theater itself may not necessarily remain within the walls of the façade.  Business owners in the Grove will welcome the reopening of the theater as it will surely attract quality customers to their businesses.  Theater lovers will be rewarded with wonderful performances by a theater group that has won numerous awards throughout the years.  Another reason we love to live in the Grove!
