I had the pleasure a few weeks ago, of being invited to the “soft” opening of a new Italian restaurant in South Beach. Cantina 27, at 2701 Collins Avenue was moderately priced and the food, cooked by chef Luciano Sautto, was delicious. Since I don’t go for huge portions with complicated presentations, their plates were a pleasant surprise: a simple mouth-watering presentation. A continuous flow of food to our table presented us with opportunity to try dishes like Tagliere della Cantina (Italian mixed cold-cuts), Calamari Fritti, Milane di Pollo (breaded chicken breast w/side salad) and my favorite, Rigatoni ai Funghi (wild mushrooms in light pink sauce). The owners, Luca Laborante, Davide Caldero, and Emanuelle Olivero, succeeded in their quest for ambience. We enjoyed the outdoor tables, but candlelight and a quaint Italian decor adorned the inside. Bon Appetito!
