When Randi Rapp, our broker, suggested taking part in this event to help fight cancer, I quickly agreed. She’s always coming up with great ideas for our office and what could be better: raise money for a good cause, get some exercise, participate with co-workers from EWM and network with thousands of people from all over South Florida, with similar intentions.
What I didn’t anticipate was the ‘high’ of joining some 20,000 people running or walking through the City of Miami, on streets lined with cheering crowds, streets that had been closed to traffic, walkers of all ages, sizes, and occupations. You could have seen it on the evening TV news, but you would never know what it felt like.
Later, munching on snacks at the EWM tent (ok, devouring whatever food was left after the 3.5 mile race: we weren’t racing), there was a shared “wow, wasn’t that great” feeling. Throughout Bayside Park, a Tent City of corporate sponsors had sprouted up for the event and, as night fell, everyone – from runners, walkers, volunteers, media, and on-lookers- we all got to throw a great party.
Randi and I agreed: we’ll be there again next year!
