Not Since Christo Surrounded The Islands In Biscayne Bay In Pink Plastic Has A Single Art Event In Miami Gotten So Much Attention. Artist Spencer Tunick has come to Miami Beach, specifically Lincoln Road, to take another in his very famous series of photos of masses of nude people in public places. According to the Miami Herald article, “Tunick says he wants applicants to submit photos of themselves enjoying the South Florida vibe, but he doesn’t need to see them naked. He’s not interested in exhibitionists.” The actual shoot will be held on October 8th, time to be announced. Be infamous! Apply now online.

Need a getaway? A new exhibition by Clyde Butcher (sometimes called own own ‘Ansel Adams of the Everglades’) opened on September 15th celebrating the Beauty of Cuba in large-format, black-and-white photography at the Gulf Coast gem, Cà d’Zan, the historic home (and museum) of John Ringling in Sarasota, Florida. The photos will be on display through January 10, 2008. The house alone is worth the drive! The glass in the windows on the bay are shades of pin, yellow, green, and orange.

The internationally acclaimed Quilts of Gee’s Bend on display at the Museum of Art of Fort Lauderdale* (through January 7th) will touch us all. Hailed by the New York times, this exhibition celebrates “a remarkable artistic legacy born of necessity.” 70 quilts are on display, crafted by over 6 generations by women in an all-black community southwest of Selma, Alabama, known as Gee’s Bend. *How to get there.
