Bet that got your attention!
The Miami Bach Society kicked off it’s 9th annual Tropical Baroque Music Festival last night with a wonderful concert in South Gables. This coming Wednesday (March 5th), the group Mala Punica will be performing at St. Theresa’s church in Coral Gables. If you enjoy classical music, I cannot recommend this concert highly enough. You will hear music that you’ve never heard before, and will probably never hear again (unless you buy the CD). Mention “classical music” and most people think of symphonies, or opera, or maybe Vivaldi, but not much more than that. Mala Punica performs a style of music known as ‘Ars Nova,’ which is a vocal style of music passingly similar to Gregorian chants (but better). Wednesday’s performance will feature liturgical music from 1380 – 1420 ad.
I have heard this group twice before over the past 10 years, and I cannot begin to tell you how incredibly lovely the music is, and what a truly amazing instrument the human voice can be. Please don’t miss this wonderful offering!
Tickets area available at the door for $35.00. Students under 21 years of age can attend for free. St. Theresa’s is at 2711 Indian Mound Trail, which is just West of the Biltmore Hotel.
