As many of you may have heard, Storm Noel brought devastation to many areas of the Dominican Republic and Haiti last week. In addition to the casualties and infrastructure damage caused by floods and mudslides, there are many who were left with nothing. The Dominican Republic has declared a state of emergency. During this critical time; local government, private sector and foreign help are most important. Here is a list of organizations and locations in Miami that are accepting donations including clothing, blankets, and nonperishable food items.

Operation Helping Hands in Miami is accepting donations to provide aid to the communities affected by Tropical Storm Noel. Donations can be made online at www.iwant2help.com or by calling 305-646-7129. In addition, checks can be mailed to: United Way of Miami-Dade, P.O. Box 459007, Miami, FL 33245-9007.
The Dominican Consulatein Miami, located at 1038 Brickell Ave., is collecting donations for the victims of Tropical Storm Noel. Items needed include: bottled water, soap, lanterns, blankets, and nonperishable food items such as canned foods and pasta.

Food for the Poorin Deerfield Beach also is accepting donations to help with the rebuilding efforts in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Donations can be made on the website at www.foodforthepoor.org or by calling 1-800-427-9104.
