I recently wrote about the controversial new sculpture that was installed at the Segovia / Biltmore Way roundabout, and apparently that piece of art is still getting a lot of attention from Coral Gables residents – and not in a good way.
There is a petition circulating that calls for the removal of artist Alice Aycock’s design. It proposes that the sculpture be moved someplace more appropriate, such as Fairchild Gardens. I actually think that it would be quite striking in that setting! Like in my previous blog “Real or Fake,” it would provide an interesting contrast between what an artist can design and what Mother Nature has brought to life.
In addition to the aforementioned petition, former New York Times journalist and Gables resident George Volsky has written a lengthy piece on the sculpture – and the fact that the vote to select the piece was dubious at best.
